Browse by metal. Sterling silver, marked 925, is the largest part of the collection. Gold runs from 9ct through 14ct and 18ct — the higher the carat, the richer the colour and the softer the metal, which is why 9ct is the sensible British choice for something worn every day. Gold vermeil is a layer of gold over solid sterling silver, and it is not the same as plating over base metal. Platinum 950 is denser than gold, naturally white and never needs re-plating. What each mark means, and when a piece must legally carry one, is explained on our hallmarking page.
